The Temple complex is a very nice example of Chinese imperial buildings. Mostly destroyed during the 50’s and 60’s but they are in the process of rebuilding it.

an amazing site most people seem to miss

This is one of the most impressive temple complexes I have seen in China. One of the reasons it is my favorite is that it is usually mostly deserted. However, this is a seriously overlooked treasure. More people should go here because it is a vast and highly important complex of buildings which is beautifully preserved. As of The summer and fall of 2019 they are still in the moddle of a massive renovation, but it is going little by little, so there is always much to see. The stripped columns and roof beams are also quite beautiful and offer a glimpse into the construction of this complex. Many of the buildings are mostly original from the Ming dynasty. It is a must see site overall.

Grand Xiyue Temple

The grand Xiyue Temple is currently undergoing renovations thus there were less than 10 visitors on site. It is in dire need of proper maintenance. The compound is huge and the archways magnificent. The Xiyue Temple is dedicated to the God of Mount Huashan; you can use your entrance ticket for Mount Huashan to enter the Xiyue Temple. The Xiyue Temple is rich in culture and history, having started from West Han Dynasty, relocated to the present venue during the East Han Dynasty and survived the Sui, Tang, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Inside the fist temple hall, there is a huge mural painting of the Emperor, Empress and their entourage paying homage at this temple. Beautiful. I would have rated higher for this place if not for the renovations which gave one the unease feeling when walking around. Nevertheless, I hope for the temple to be restored to her glorious form soon.

Grand Temple-Glad we went

My husband and I went there before our HST to Luoyang. The temple was
grand.. a must see. Very few visitors and out of the few visitors there they did not
go all the way past what appears to be the last building but is not continue pass that building which leads towards the stairs leading up to more of the temple the city wall to 5 peak towers outlook. Worth the visit.

Real stuff and great place to visit after Hua Mountain

Great Temple - few visitors

My son and I visited Xiyue Temple in the afternoon, and found few visitors. In fact there seemed to be more workers doing restoration than tourists. This gave us an opportunity to stroll around at our own pace, and take fantastic pictures.

Xiyue temple is a short taxi ride The best site for photos is at the rear of the temple grounds, in the temple which is five stories high. All the towers and the layout of the temple grounds can be seen from this vantage point. It should be noted that it will be necessary to pass through construction areas to reach this building.

In the temple, there are emperor outfits which may be rented for photo ops. I paid 20 yuan for costume rental, and was allowed to take 2 pictures. After visiting Xiyue Temple, take a stroll through Huayin Town.
