In efforts to restore tourism in Bali, which has been hit hard by the pandemic, the central government has confirmed that Bali will hold the international G20 summit in 2022. The annual summit is a forum of 19 countries and the EU that together represent most of the world economy.
The Indonesian Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno said that in order to recover Bali’s economy from crisis, he is trying to initiate international events to be held on the island.
“Bali is expected to hold several big events such as MX GP Championship and Summit Conference G20,” Sandiaga said on Saturday (27/2).
The Head of Bali Tourism Agency, I Putu Astawa confirmed that Bali Vice Government has already told all stakeholders to make preparations regarding the Summit.
“We started to inspect and maintain public facilities such as infrastructure, tourist attractions, public roads, and public transportation facilities so all delegations could have better access during the event,” Astawa said.
Astawa claimed that when Bali reopens its border, he’s optimistic that prevention protocols will be implemented in order to make visitors feel safe and raise their confidence in the island.
“We’re not really worried about holding such a big event here as we already have experience in holding other international events such as the Summit Conference with World Bank and IMF in 2018” Astawa concluded.
This event is expected to increase the economic activity since the pandemic struck in 2020.
