MichaelMicrosoft’s 2010 release of their essential office tools suite

A review by Michael

Microsoft Office 2010 is the popular Microsoft Office productivity suite for Microsoft Windows which contains well known office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint. Microsoft Office 2010 is an upgrade to Office 2007, and was released before Office 2013. The RTD (research and technological development) of Office 2010 had begun in 2006 before Office 2007 was even released. On April 15, 2010, Microsoft Office 2010 was released to manufacturing and on June 15, 2010, it was finally made available for retail. Office 2010 is the first productivity suite from its family that comes in two different versions: 32-bit and 64-bit. Additionally, the x64 version does not support Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. Office 2010 was hailed as one of the best releases of Office software to dates. These are just some of the features which make Office 2010 unique:

Past Preview

Past Preview is a feature that helps users save a lot of time. You no longer have to undo your document or check past documents one by one –聽 instead, you can simply hover over your options with the mouse to preview past version of your document. This can scan the entire document and is an essential tool if you want to analyze past versions of your document.

Themes

Themes, although simply concerned with aesthetics, are very important when it comes to making a document look more professional. Themes are now available across Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. More than that, Microsoft doubled the number of built-in themes, giving access to 20 more for end-users.

Built-in Graphics Toolset

If in the past you had to use a third-party tool in order to edit your images or videos – with Word 2010, Microsoft has gotten rid of this problem. They have added a very helpful update at multimedia editing, adding some new options. Users now have access to image-editing tools with which can remove backgrounds, capture the screen, crop, resize and add artistic effects to images, as well as many other features. This mini-photoshop inside your Microsoft Office tools is extremely useful.

Security

One and the most important layers of protection available in Office 2010 is Protected View. Opening documents from unknown sources is not a problem anymore, because Protected View lets you open them in a digital sandbox where you can read them without putting your PC at risk. After that, if you consider that the documents are not a threat, you can confirm that you want to edit them. Other security improvements include Office File Validation and DEP (Data Execution Prevention).

Customization

Microsoft, understanding the fact that everyone uses the Office suite for different reasons, have introduced features which allow users to customize the program according to their personal needs. Using the Quick Access Toolbar, you can select which toolbar are most important to you and you can simply add them to this new toolbar as handy, highly accessible shortcuts.

Co-Authoring

Co-Authoring is a new feature which allows multiple users to edit a file simultaneously with both edits appearing on both screens at the same time, thus avoiding conflicts within the same document. The changes made by each user are reincorporated together inside the original document only after all users have finished editing them.

TL;DR

Microsoft Office 2010 is a significant update to the software bundle which allows better work efficiency and adds many user-requested features. It is a must-get upgrade to previous versions of Office tools.
