China Central Television Program 3 (first era)[]

CCTV-3 started broadcasting on January 1, 1986 as a Chinese-language entertainment TV channel. Prior to February 1, 1987, no on-screen bugs were used for the channel.
1987–1992[]
On February 1, 1987, CCTV-3 received its first on-screen bug, which consisted of only the wordmark "中央电视台-3" (Central Television-3).
Mid-1992[]
in mid-1992 the channel's logo/on-screen bug was moved to the upper left corner.
1992–1995[]
On July 1, 1992, CCTV-3 updated its logo/on-screen bug: the CCTV logo known as a "butterfly" or "atom" on the left, the number 3 is on the right.
China Central Television Literature and Art Channel[]
1995–1996[]
On November 30, 1995, CCTV-3 was renamed to China Central Television Literature and Art Channel (中国中央电视台文艺频道). As part of the rebranding, the number 3 in the on-screen bug was adjusted.
China Central Television Opera and Music Channel[]
1996–1998[]
CCTV-3 was renamed to China Central Television Opera and Music Channel (中国中央电视台戏曲·音乐频道) on January 15, 1996, but the 1995 on-screen bug was retained.
1998–1999[]

CCTV-3 updated its on-screen bug—the transparent wordmark "CCTV-3" on June 1, 1998, while introducing a new logo for the channel: a red ribbon resembling the number 3.
China Central Television Program 3 (second era)[]

CCTV-3 was again renamed to China Central Television Program 3 (中国中央电视台第三套节目) on August 30, 1999. However the on-screen bug was retained, and on the lower right of the logo the text "Central Television Program 3 (中央电视台第三套节目)" was added.
China Central Television Variety Channel[]
2000–2004[]

On December 18, 2000, CCTV-3 changed its name into China Central Television Variety Channel (中国中央电视台综艺频道). The on-screen bug was retained, while the text on the lower right of the logo was changed to "Central Television Variety Channel (中央电视台综艺频道)".
2001–2010[]
CCTV updated the on-screen bugs and primary logos for all its channels on July 9, 2001—including two new channels ( CCTV-10 and CCTV-11) launched on the same day. The primary logo, commonly known as “spoon logo(勺标)”, consisted of the logo of CCTV and the hollow number (which used the font KabelC) inside the spoon. Despite texts indicating the classification of the channels (in the case of CCTV-3 it was “Variety Show(综艺)”) were added below the primary logo in the station IDs, they were never a part of the on-screen bug until January 1, 2011 ( CCTV-2 until September 21, 2009). In the meantime, the previous idents and promos of CCTV-3 were still in use until October 7, 2004 while the red ribbon logo was retained until August 30, 2010.
2003–2010[]
The red ribbon logo was further modified and could be seen in some of the channel’s idents and promos during the period
2010–2019[]
On September 1, 2010, CCTV-3 updated its idents and graphic package, and a modified logo based on that of 2001 was used in the channel’s idents. It continued to use until September 29, 2019.
At the same time, the channel introduced a new slogan: "Life is a stage (生活就是舞台)", which is still in use.
2011–present[]
In 2011, CCTV updated the primary logos and on-screen for all its channels, and Chinese text "综艺 (Variety Show)" was officially added to the on-screen bug of CCTV-3 while the font of the number changed from KabelC to Futura-Bold.
2013–2019, 2019–2021 (Midnight only)[]
On May 31, 2013, CCTV-3 introduced its new secondary logo—resembling a reversed sigma, known as Origami 3 (折纸3) by the Chinese netizens. The logo, as well as the idents and graphic package was designed by 5DS, a branding agency headquartered in Beijing.
The logo was retained after a rebranding in 2016, when a new set of package (also designed by 5DS) was introduced. However, after another rebranding took place on September 30, 2019, the logo could only be seen at midnight.
2019–2020[]
The red ribbon was reintroduced to the channel’s secondary logo on September 30, 2019, this time resembling both the Chinese radical (纟) and the number 3. Aside from the ribbon, the logo also consisted of the wordmark "央视综艺 (Central Television Variety Show)".
2020–2022[]
On December 31, 2020, the channel’s secondary logo was reduced to only a wordmark: "综艺频道 (Variety Show Channel)".
April–May 2021[]
To celebrate the Labor Day Holiday, CCTV-3 briefly reintroduced the 2013 logo.
2023–present[]
