I had my DD at 30 weeks 6 days. She is doing wonderful! came out screaming (i had the steroid shots to help develop her lungs) she really had no major issues, the biggest hurdle for her was learning to eat. she was in the NICU 7 weeks. she was on oxygen for about 4 days, then dident need it at all, she only had the nose canula. was 3lbs 9oz and 15.5 in long. She is 2.5 months actual now and a happy healthy baby, she is just small for her age, looks like a newborn.

now

I had my DD at 32.1 weeks after I pprom'd. She was IUGR and weighed 2lbs13oz and was 16 inches long. She spent a few hours on cpap and then onto nasal cannula with high flow room air. She got off that pretty quickly but once we started introducing more bottle feeds she had to be put onto a tiny bit of oxygen for desats. We met with OT and decided to change her feeding schedule to every 4 hours instead of 3 and in a matter of days she was taking all feeds by bottle came off oxygen and was home! She spent 6 weeks in the nicu as a grower/feeder.
There will be ups and downs but 31/32 weeks is actually really good in preemie terms. Just try to stay positive for your LO - they are fighters!
DD is now 4 months actual and healthy and happy- just small like PP said!!

I hope your LO keeps baking as long as possible. My son was born at 31.1 ish, since dating isn't always an exact science. He was big for his age but his lungs even with steroids were a little immature for GA. He needed o2 on and off for most of his stay though kicked it before coming home after 56 days in the NICU. Learning to eat was challenging and we rode the Brady train but now he's huge, over 24 lbs at 10 months actual. He has some slight gross motor delays but he's an incredibly happy child when not teething.
(Is any baby happy while teething?)

Good luck mama. Welcome to the board. If you have any questions we're here to help! - SarahJane86Posted 02-01-12
I had DD at 32+1. She was rockstar! She'd had steroids at 24, 28 and 32 weeks and came out SCREAMING.
We got a cuddle right away and she weighed a MASSIVE 4.4 pounds. She had jaundice and had a suspected infection, which she had anitbiotics for. She began breast feeding at 35 weeks to the day. We roomed in at 35+5 and went home at 35+6.
She turns 21 months on the 6th and is gorgeous! She will talk your ear off, saying a few three word sentences, has three sight words, can count to ten, knows about a dozen shapes, knows her colours, animals (farm, zoo, water, domestic and insects. Oh and dragon and dinosaur), can feed herself with a fork, brushes her own hair and teeth in the morning, builds with duplo, is quickly learning to do puzzles, is really starting to run with confidence (she only walked at 16 months) and sleeps in a big girl bed.
Yeah, okay, I'm proud. TIMES A MILLION.

- Hmom+1tocomePosted 02-01-12My son was born at 31.1, I had steroids at 30 weeks. I was on bedrest until 30 weeks then hospital bedrest for that last 8 days and I know it really sucks I'm sorry that you are going through it.
My son came out yelling, only needed the nasal canula for a few days and was basically in the NICU to get bigger and learn to eat, which took a while, 6 weeks. But he still came home 3 weeks before his due date and has had some minor issues nothing a big deal - he is amazing and I am so proud and love him so much.
I really hope you can keep that baby in as long as possible because having a preemie is hard , but at this gestation the odds are in your baby's favor, and each day baby stays in increase your baby's chances even more.
Here is my boy a few days old:
(he was born at 3 lbs 14 ozs and lost a few ounces thg first week)

Hi there!
This is actually my first comment in this group...had my son on Jan. 18th (32.5 weeks) quite unexpectedly as he wasn't due until March 10th! I was leaking fluid, went to L&D, and was told I was at 4 cm. They tried steroids but I delivered that night, so I don't think they had time to really help. Fortunately he was 4.8 lbs. and only needed help with oxygen the first night. He is eating great (and pooping up a storm) and gaining weight, in a crib now rather than an isolette, and we should be able to take him home this weekend! He is super cute :) too, just like his older brother who is seven and SO excited! Best wishes to you and your little one....the doctors and nurses know what they are doing and will take care of you both, so try not to worry and stay positive. Keep us posted Dear!

I had my LO at 32 wks & 4. My pregancy was normal, my water just happend to break at 31 wks, since I didn't go into active labor I was on hospital bed rest for about a wk before my daughter decided she had some business to take care of. I had steriod shots at 31 wks. She came out a screaming 4ibs 8oz, with no major health issues. She was pretty much a feeder and grower, and left the NICU on a moniter for apnea issues, after a 23 NICU stay. She did get sick with an infection at 2 months (40 wks) that required hospitalization, but since then she is a healthy 9 month old actual, Crawling around everywhere, and making tons of nosie lol. Good luck to you, I hope you can keep your LO cooking for as long as possible.
- aallielstanleyPosted 02-01-12My little guy was born at 32 weeks exactly because of severe sudden preeclampsia. He was growth restricted and weighed 3lbs 4oz. I had the steroid shots but he still needed oxygen. His Apgar score was 8 but he needed to be intubated for about 24 hours. He was then on nasal cannula on and off for his entire 37 day NICU stay. He had some trouble with desats when he ate, but he took to eating pretty quickly. We had a heart scare at one week old. His heart rate was very high, about 230. They gave him medicine for a few days and it went back to normal, so thankfully that wasn't a continued issue. He came home at 4lbs 12oz and today he is 8 months old and weighs 18lbs. He's very healthy and you'd never know he was a preemie!
- tTaniaBidPosted 02-01-12I had my little princess at 30 wks after 2 weeks bed rest. Delivered her naturally and she cried straight away. She didn't need any help breathing and stayed in nicu for 7 weeks just to eat. She was 3lb born and is now a healthy 14 month yr old toddler who is just starting to walk!!!! Take a deep breathe you will be fine and think positive xx
Good luck :)
